It's difficult to avoid interruptions completely, unless you have the option to lock yourself away in isolation. But if that's not an option then you can reduce the number and regularity with these tips:
1. Switch off your mobile phone. Ensure you've activated your voice-mail with a greeting that details when you will return to the caller. Access any messages during a convenient break in your day. Return only those calls that require same-day attention. All other calls should be added to your to-do-list.
It's important to think carefully about whether a face-to-face meeting is really necessary or not. More people are choosing telephone and web conferencing facilities as a means for holding business meetings. Ask yourself these questions to help you reach your decision: "What is it I want to achieve from this meeting?" "Can I achieve the same with a telephone call?"
